Warning Signs
In order to know when the battery in your Jeep Compass, Wrangler, or Ram 1500 is in need of a test, you should be prepared to recognize a few warning signs. First, the battery holds power generated from the alternator and then redistributes it to the lights, sound system, climate control, and even steering. If you notice inconsistencies with any of these, like flickering lights, then that can be a sign. When you take a look at the component itself, you can get a clearer image. Some easy ones to spot are if the casing is swollen, which can come from overcharging and is usually a buildup of acid. Alternatively there could be rust or corrosion on the terminals, which can quickly sap it of power.
Battery Test
When you come into our location, our qualified technicians will use electronic tools to test whether or not your car’s battery can hold a charge. They'll use a multimeter to measure it's voltage and can simulate a car start to see if it holds enough. If they find that the battery is on its last leg, then we can readily replace it with one from our Parts Department. Should the opposite be true and we see that it can still go on, we’ll tell you for how much longer it should be able to last. This way, you know when to come in next and you’re not left stranded on your way to Dundee Ridge Park.
Inspection Process
If they can’t diagnose the issue through the test, then they can also conduct a comprehensive inspection to pinpoint what’s causing problems. First, they’ll start by clearing off any dirt or leaves that have accumulated over the course of your drives down M-50. Next, they’ll see if the casing is bloated or there’s any rust and corrosion on the terminals. They can also take an extensive look to see if there are any loose cables that need tending to. If they still can’t find any issues with the battery itself, then they’ll look to see if faulty wiring is causing lights to stay on in the trunk or storage area of the vehicle.
